MArie! Clam yourself! You must rest! *Nicholas is speaking firmly but no unkindly. His expression is marked with worry*

Elizabeth is here to help. I know nothing of politics, how am I suppose to protect you, James, and this realm while you are ill?

I thought that by marrying you, I found someone who would protect me. Not someone who needed to fall into the arms of my jailor and her henchmen as soon as I fell ill.

Marie I love you ... I do not know how to make you believe me. *he does not want to upset her further by causeing an arguement but he does not want her to go one believeing he has wronged her, he is really torn on what to say, fearing he will only make it worse.

*Elizabeth sends James off to speak firmly to the ministers of Scotland and then speaks gently to Marie*

Cousin, I wish you no harm. I hath been at my greatest ease since thou took firm control of Scotland and declared peace and kinship with my realm. I hath no claim over your kingdom and it suits me well to have a fellow Queen run it well as you hath been doing. I need you better.

I also do not wish your sweet son James to have to endure the weight of Kingship too soon like my brother Edward did. I am full sure twas that which killed him as he was often a healthy child.

I have sent James to tell thine ministers that no decisions shall be passed by them unless by your own bidding. If they try to take control now I will have England bring every one of them down.

*Nicholas allows himself to be pulled back down to sit next her.*

Thank you, dearest cousin. Please remember to reward James and Nicky if god decides to welcome me to his Kingdom. *Reaches out feebly to give Nicholas a kiss, but then stops in mid-motion. And then there's a look in my eyes that resembles a light going out and I fall into my pillow*.

*They rush to Marie's aid immediately. Elizabeth pushes Nicholas aside and kneels on the floor so that she can speak direct and loud into Marie's ear. She hath tears in her eyes now but takes a deep breath and commands her most Queenly roar of displeasure*

Marie Stuart, thou hast not done thine duty as Queen. If you dare to die on me now I shalt have thine Kingdom for myself as revenge and fill it with the English bible!

*Elizabeth turns to Nicholas*

Pull thine self together sir, there ist much to be done. Call on James and the lady's top ministers with great haste. I would have her do her duty, I wilt not have anyone of Tudor blood die so feebly without a fight! Summon them to their Queen's bedchamber.

*Nicholas does as he is bid with out question*

*Rises up into sitting position, face bright red and heart beating quickly* ENGLISH BIBLES? WHAT'S NEXT? SODOMITES AND DANCING GIRLS?

*Elizabeth sighs with relief*

*Elizabeth props the weakened Queen up a little with her pillows*

I wudst have you fight this illness Marie, thou hast much to live for. A charming husband that wudst break the very earth in two to protect and love thee, a wonderful young son that wilt make a fine King and a peaceful Kingdom.

Now, whilst you are ill and taking thine rest you must proclaim someone to act as Lord Protector of thine realm. Someone whom you can trust to take good care of your realm as you would wish while you rest. Then you can concentrate on getting better knowing that all will be well when you awake.

They wilt also need a successor naming...

*Elizabeth whispers are Marie's ministers do approach*

*Elizabeth straightens herself up, trying to still look regal and powerful alongside her cousin despite her shabby peasant's riding gear. What Marie ist not strong enough to press upon them she wilt.*

*Nicholas returns carrying young James in his arms. Nicholas sees Marie sitting up and sighs with relief. He sets the child down so he can see his mother.*

The ministers wait in the other chamber

*Begins to put together sudden illness with Elizabeth's presence in Scotland and the fact that James wasn't surprised to see her ...*

*Now the the Queen of Scotland ist sitting up and hath a gleam of fire back in her eyes Elizabeth nods to one of the Queen's ladies to open the doors and permit the most senior noblemen of Scotland.

*Nicholas fades into the background but is ready if he is needed or wanted*

Oh, Elizabeth, I cannot wait to see their faces when they're faced with both of us together in this room. *Giggles*.
