*Walks up to the door, having stopped before to have my hair put up and my make-up pain-stakingly applied, so that forever your last memory of me is as the most beautiful woman on Earth, but upon hearing Francis in the room I stop and leans into listen at the door like a common woman. I cannot believe myself hearing a Francis who threatens my death and a Nicholas who will kill for my life, but not for my hand. I have worn cotton on my heels and an unfamiliar perfume so Nicholas' vampire senses do not register my presence. My teeth grit every time Nicholas asks for peace and Francis will not grant it, every time Francis uses some vile word, every time Francis calls him stupid, every time he threatens death, but my anger soon dies. I realize that this battle of words, threats and deeds is fought by two men who truly love me, who will kill to have me. One is a spoiled, selfish little boy who has no-one else in the World but I and his mother and only loves those both. The other is an over-emotional, indesicive vampire who would remain loyal in the face of grisly death and all else. Removing my cloak, I proudly enter the room, head held high every inch the Queen I was born to be.*
