As always I do appreciate your loyal friendship, concern, and advice. I wish not to tarnish in any degree my good family name or the title thee hath so graciously bestowed upon me. But none the less it seems despite my efforts I am no longer held in the high regard I once was. I wuldst gladly repair the damage if I knew how. As you know I hath always held my honor above all else. I find it most distressing that my honor is being judged not by deed but solely on my choice of companionship.

I understand Marie’s past and why she does not stand in high favor with the Britons, or many others. But who among us hath not made bad choices in life? Doth not the Christian faith, be it Catholic or Prodestant, teach of God’s love, forgiveness? Why shud she be punished still for the past? Perhaps if she were shown more encouragement than insult people wuldst have the chance to see in her what I see.

I do hope I hath no offended thou with my words, I know as always you wish to help. I speak only the truth of how I feel.

I do understand well all thou hath said and I thank you most humbly for the wise council. I know what has transpired in the past but I also know Marie doth care passionately for her subjects and lands. I do believeth with the utmost certainty that she would not have removed her child from the throne if she did not think it her right to do so. And you will notice that she doth insult your good royal person somewhat less than she did. Tis a start.

I will try to advise her as you suggest, starting with this Spanish invasion of which you speak, but I fear I may be of little use. I possess not the knowledge of a ruler. And alas worse still I doth not think my betrothed will be much inclined to hear my council. Tis her household and her court, she hath made that quite clear. A King she may wish to make me but a powerless one I am afraid.

Still, for her, I shall try. I wish nothing more than for her success and for all to see the capable ruler she can be and the loyal, trust worthy, and charming person she is.
