He is none other than the Holy Roman Emperor. I care for him not, no surprise there huh? He is a Catholic, an Imperialist, a Spaniard and in mine own opinion not very sincere. I suppose there is much there to recommend him to you. Also he is boring with an obsession with clocks. Nowadays he would robably be diagnosed with Asperger's. No I think that you are fairly sincere. Mostly I meant being Catholic, Imperialist and Spanish. You like Marie and Marie likes all that stuff. I think you are pretty much alright. And as you know I have many enemies here and basically only two friends, my daughter and my lady Joscelyn. I wish there were more of my sort of people here. You know Marguerite D'Angouleme, Thomas Wyatt, Margaret Lee, my brother George. But I am animdomitable woman and I relish running roughshod over the Catholics whenever I can.

I was raised Catholic but I have no ill will towards the Prodestants, in my eyes we are all Christians so why split hairs? However I am no Imperialists and I do believe I hath only ever met one Spainard so I can not in all honesty give an opinion of them as a people.

I suppose I am somewhat prejudiced by my experiences with the dowager princess of Whales (typo and it stays), the Lady Mary and Chapuys. In my time religion was a big deal. My daughter has the right idea though about not making windows into men's souls. Elizabeth is a very wise woman.

She is very wise indeed. There is no one I trust more. She hath saved my life and been my loyal friend when I had none.

And I am sure you were her friend too when she had none. She is really in her own way a rags to riches story. After my death her father often forgot her and she literally depended on the kindness of strangers. As Elizabeth always says we are more beholden to those that raised us than our own parents, for our parents just did what was natural.

There is no way to make two people agree on religion when no two clocks keep the same time.
